Written examples of Old East Slavonic are attested from the 10th century onwards. Today Russian is widely used outside Russia. Russian dialects are not commonly used. Russians tend to state that the dialects are non-existing as they are used only in the countryside by old people. Researchers claim Russian dialects may disappear within a few decades.
